The content is specific to the greater-Austin area.

Saturday, June 4, 2022; 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. With a morning Plant Walk and afternoon Zoom Presentation

Plant Walk: 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center - 4801 La Crosse Ave, Austin, TX 78739
Travel Time: 10:30 a.m. -12:15 p.m.

Presentations via Zoom: 12:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Plant Walk Details:

  • The Wildflower Center recommends allowing 15-20 minutes for parking.
  • The NLCP class will meet by the admission kiosk. Class registrants will have free admission to the Wildflower Center. 
  • The Rain Date for the plant walk is 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 5, 2022.
  • We will practice social distancing. Only sign up for this class if you are willing to attend the in-person plant walk which will comply with all applicable site & health agency requirements.

Class Outline:
Native Landscapes for Birds is a companion class to the Native Landscape Certification Program (NLCP).
In the class you will:

  • Learn about the importance of birds and Texas' role in bird migration
  • Identify threats to birds and steps to reduce them
  • Understand the relationship between birds and native plants
  • Create and maintain bird-friendly native plant landscapes
  • Become familiar with up to 50 native Texas plants that benefit your local birds

There is no prerequisite for this class.

Native Landscape Certification Program (NLCP)

The Native Landscape Certification Program (NLCP) is a four-level certification program that teaches the value of including and preserving native plants in landscapes. Classes focus on the characteristics and plants of the region in which they are taught. Check it out.

Registration Process

When you "Click to register online", a "Log In" screen pops up.  You must log in to register at the Member Price.  If you are a member, have taken a class, or attended an event in the past, an account has already been created for you, though you may still need to create a login.   Log in or create a login by filling in the email address used to complete your registration and clicking "Recover Account."  Account records are secure and will not be shared.  

Non-members may click on the "X" in the upper right-hand corner of the pop-up screen to close it and access the registration form.

1 week prior to class - reminder email
3 days prior to class - an email with class materials and Zoom links
1 day prior and day-of class - final reminder emails

Class Prices and NPSOT Member Discounts

Level 1: $45 for all
Levels 2, 3, 4 and Native Landscapes for Birds:
$50 - Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) members
$65 - Non-members. Become a NPSOT member. 

Cancellations

Contact: Linda Foss NLCP@npsot.org or (830) 218-7211. Fees may not be applied to future classes. Cancellations made by midnight on the Monday prior to class are eligible for a refund. Upon cancellation, a $10 handling fee is deducted from the refund. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.
