Learn the importance of native plants and plant diversity to the success of birds. And how to create and maintain bird-friendly native plant landscapes.

NLCP is a state-wide program, but classes focus on the characteristics and plants in the region in which they are taught. This class is specific to the north-central Texas area (Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton).

Description

This class is in-person.

Presentations: 9 am at the Lewisville Thrive Community Activity Center, 1950 S. Valley Parkway, Lewisville, TX 75067
Plant Walk: Valley Vista Nature Park, 1951 S. Valley Parkway, Lewisville, TX 75067
Online Test:  After completing the class and plant walk, you will be sent a link to the online test which you will have 3 days to complete.

Break refreshments are provided. Please bring your own lunch - and water for the plant walk!
 

Class Outline

  • Appreciate the rich bird diversity in Texas and their contributions to the natural world.
  • Understand current threats to bird populations and what you can do to help.
  • Recognize the importance of native plants and plant diversity to the success of birds.
  • Create and maintain bird friendly native plant landscapes.

This class has no pre-requisite and no test.

The Native Landscape Certification Program (NLCP) is a four-level certification program that teaches the value of including and preserving native plants in landscapes. Classes focus on the characteristics and plants of the region in which they are taught. Check it out.

Registration Process

You must log in to register at the Member Price.  If you are a member, have taken a class or attended an event in the past, an account has already been created for you. You may need to create a login for that account if you have not done so.  When you "Click to register online", a "Log In" screen pops up. Log in or create a login by filling in the email address used to complete your registration and clicking "Recover Account."  Account records are secure and will not be shared.  If you are not a member and do not wish to log in, click the X on the top right corner to close the popup and complete the form beneath.

After Registration Watch for these emails:

NPSOT registration confirmation email 
1 week prior to class - reminder email
3 days prior to class - an email with class materials and Zoom links
1 day prior and day-of class - final reminder emails

Level 1: $45 for all
Levels 2, 3, 4 and Native Landscapes for Birds:

$50 - Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) members
$65 - Non-members. Become a NPSOT member. 

Cancellations

Contact: Linda Foss NLCP@npsot.org or (830) 218-7211. Fees may not be applied to future classes. Cancellations made by midnight on the Monday prior to class are eligible for a refund. Upon cancellation, a $10 handling fee is deducted from the refund. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.
