NLCP is a state-wide program, but classes focus on the characteristics and plants in the region in which they are taught.

Class Outline

Level 1: Introduction to Native Landscapes

  • Learn the value of including and preserving native plants in landscapes
  • Understand the differences between sustainable and conventional development
  • Discover your Texas ecoregion, vegetation, and soil.
  • Become familiar with 45 native Texas plants recommended for your landscape and 5 plants to avoid

NLCP Level 1 is a prerequisite to Levels 2 - 4, which may be taken in any order. 

Optional Online Test for Certification:  After completing the class and plant walk, you will be sent a link to the online test which you will have 3 days to complete.  The test is not required to continue with our other classes.

The Native Landscape Certification Program (NLCP) is a four-level certification program that teaches the value of including and preserving native plants in landscapes. Classes focus on the characteristics and plants of the region in which they are taught. Please register for classes located in the region in which you wish to landscape. Check it out!

Registration Process

When you "Click to register online", a "Log In" screen pops up.  You must log in to register at the Member Price.  If you are a member, have taken a class or attended an event in the past, an account has already been created for you using the email address from your registration. You may need to create a login if you have never logged in before by filling in the email address used to complete your registration and clicking "Recover Account."  Account records are secure and will not be shared.  

To register without logging in, click the x at the top right to close the popup and complete the form below.

After Registration Watch for several emails (Prone to getting caught by SPAM filters):

  • NPSOT registration confirmation email - check junk mail
  • 1 week prior to class - reminder email
  • 3 days prior to class - email with class materials link and details

Level 1: $45 for all
Levels 2, 3, 4, and Native Landscapes for Birds:
$50 - Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) members
$65 - Non-members. Become a NPSOT member

Cancellations

Contact: Linda Foss NLCP@npsot.org. Fees may not be applied to future classes. Cancellations made by midnight on the Monday prior to class are eligible for a refund. Upon cancellation, a $10 handling fee is deducted from the refund. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.
